Hurricane in the Ring is a showcase for Denzel Washington's acting, for which he was nominated for an Oscar® and won a prestigious Golden Globe. The film is directed by Norman Jewison (In the Heat of the Night). Rubin "Hurricane" Carter was a proud and promising boxer, a dark horse in the middleweight division who aspired to the championship title. However, his dreams were shattered when he was unjustly sentenced to life in prison for a brutal murder. Despite protests from famous figures, including Bob Dylan and Muhammad Ali, "Hurricane" spent nearly twenty years behind bars. Many people forgot about him, and several friends turned their backs on him. Only a handful of loyal supporters remained, along with a small spark of hope. This film, featuring a number of remarkable performances, is not just a story of the victories and falls of a great fighter, but also about people and their conscience.
