Legendary director Juraj Herz decided to open one of the most controversial chapters of Czech history, the post-war expulsion of Germans, during which righteous anger often mingled with the basest instincts. The story of Habermann's Mill, based on true events, takes place in a small village in the Sudetes between 1938 and 1945. One of the victims of history was to be the wealthy German businessman August Habermann (Mark Waschke) and his closest friend Březina (Karel Roden). The crazy times catch up with Habermann even though he employed both Czechs and Germans without prejudice and refused to fully submit to Nazi ideology. Faced with a choice between two options, neither of which is good, he makes a decision that becomes a pretext for him to become the main target on the list of "Czech patriots" immediately after the war, most of whom are his former protégés. The self-proclaimed judges and executioners are more interested in his property than in justice. Can Habermann save at least his wife and child from them? This film received the Award from the Czech Society of Cinematographers for outstanding cinematography.
