The main characters of the crime thriller are New York detectives Frank Keller and Teri Sherman, who are working on a joint case. All the murdered victims were men, all were shot, all met their deaths in bed to the tune of the song Sea of Love, and all had placed an ad in the Dating section. To find the killer, Frank and Teri pose as lonely men and place a similar ad in hopes of getting a lead. Among the women who responded to the ad is Helen, a devoted single mother of a little girl.
