Allan Karlsson is 100 years old. In the retirement home where he spends his remaining time at this age, they are preparing a big birthday celebration for him. But the vital old man does not want to sit in a chair in slippers. He has quite different plans. He decides to escape. After climbing out of the window, he embarks on an amazing and completely unpredictable journey... By coincidence, he comes into possession of a suitcase full of money. Before he knows it, he has a gang of criminals on his tail, a few dead bodies appear here and there, and among the companions he picks up along the way is a very unwieldy elephant. In addition, he is, of course, being pursued by the police, led by a rather incompetent commissioner. For anyone else, it would be a life adventure, but Allan has plenty of experience with such things. Although he has never been interested in politics, he has inadvertently been a key player in many important events of the 20th century. He unwittingly contributed to the invention of the atomic bomb, became a good friend of several American presidents, and among his other 'acquaintances' during his life journey were Stalin, Churchill, Mao Zedong, and Kim Il-sung.
