Praise be to summer. The gang is once again complete at cousin George's and is enjoying a lazy beach time on Kirrin Island. And what's more: they will have the house to themselves, as Aunt Fanny has taken Uncle Quentin to Spain for two weeks, and the Famous Five have been entrusted with watching the family estate. After all, Julian is already grown up, and a cook will stay with them, so what is there to fear? Oh dear. When the cat's away, not only do the little thieves in the pantry have a field day, but also the villains eager for Quentin's inventions. First, a spooky face appears in the dark outside the window, then the safe is pried open, and finally, the scoundrels kidnap George along with the dazed Tim – in exchange, they demand Uncle's drawings! Will the kids rely on the police, or will they try to solve the mess on their own? Even though their path is crossed by the annoying Kája, a scheming actress ripe for reform, who is up to all sorts of tricks and seems to be playing both sides?
