How does an old, gray zoo become one of the most beautiful in the world? Petr Fejk spent thirteen years (1997–2009) as the director of Prague Zoo, and now he returns to this colorful chapter of his life in his memoirs, because – as he himself says – it was an extraordinary time full of exceptional events. And he is not exaggerating. Together with his colleagues, he not only managed to revive the old zoo and transform it into one that fought its way into the top ten in the world, but he also had to deal with the devastating flood in 2002 and, above all, with the many obstacles that come with running a zoo and keeping animals in captivity. And although some circumstances surrounding his voluntary departure from Prague Zoo left a bitter taste, today this indomitable optimist reflects on his directorial tenure with his characteristic perspective and humor.
