A child of the First Republic who grew up in the hell of World War II and had to leave his beloved homeland due to disagreements with the communist regime, only to return after nearly half a century in the name of just revenge. The historical novel by the author of The Mill on Mummies or Angel's Egg offers not only an engaging story set against a historical backdrop but also a hefty dose of absurd humor that spices up and lightens the entire narrative. However, even a series of amusing moments and ridiculous motives cannot hide the tragic fate of people marked by war and totalitarianism, for whom, in the words of the protagonist, "it only matters who offers them more food, and they will follow whoever promises them a bigger portion."
