During a visit to a friend at a small sanatorium in the Swiss mountains, aging race car driver Clerfayt makes a casual proposal to the beautiful and fragile Lillian. The terminally ill girl finds the slow dying under medical supervision so burdensome that she decides to accept the not-so-serious offer and, despite the warnings of doctors and friends, leaves with her new acquaintance to Paris. Thanks to an unexpected love affair without a future, she intensely experiences every remaining second. However, as is often the case with feelings and relationships, the situation gradually complicates...
