What if your future lies in the past? After World War II, Claire, a former army nurse, goes to Scotland with her husband for their second honeymoon. However, when she touches one of the standing stones at an ancient stone circle called Craigh na Dun during a tour, she is plunged back in time nearly 200 years – to the year 1743. Suddenly, she becomes a 'Sassenach,' or foreigner – an Englishwoman in a Scotland torn by war and clan rebellion on the border, during the Jacobite uprisings, just a few years before the fateful battle of Culloden. She finds herself amidst the intrigues of local Highlanders and gentry, who consider her a British spy. Thanks to her healing abilities, she meets the charismatic young Scot James Fraser, who offers her protection – if she becomes his wife.
