He was born in 1854 in Dublin to a family of an eye and ear surgeon. However, it was his mother Jane, a successful Irish writer, who inspired Oscar – at least regarding his career choice. Initially, his life was calm and respectable – he studied classical philology (with excellent grades) and married the wealthy Constance Lloyd. At the same time, he became one of the leading figures of decadence, one of the dominant artistic movements of the 19th century.
