We embark on a month-long journey to the legendary Kingdom of Mustang, previously completely inaccessible areas in western Nepal. The pilgrimage follows the main Himalayan ridge through the Ganesh mountain range, around Manaslu via the Larkya Pass, then briefly along the Annapurna trek through the Tibetan town of Nar and the Teri Pass into Mustang. In the capital city of Lo Manthang, the expedition is received by the king. This four-part documentary is presented as an intimate travel diary, often featuring spontaneous commentary directly at the epicenter of events. We will glimpse into a small, remote Himalayan kingdom, learn about the lives of its inhabitants, its culture, and history. The word Mustang originates from the name Manthang (Lo Manthang translates to 'Plain of Prayers'), which is the capital of the country and the seat of the king. However, this land is called the land of Lo. All other Nepalese kingdoms have been unified, but this small Mustang kingdom, hidden behind the wall of the Himalayas, has retained its sovereignty even after the last unification in 1958.
