2000, Czech Republic, 47 min. Directed by: Martin Kratochvíl Starring: Pavel Soukup Sound: Dolby Digital 2.0 Czech Subtitles: English Unwelcoming, windy, cold, rainy, and cloudy, Southern Patagonia is a beautiful piece of the blue planet located in Chile and Argentina. Torres del Paine, Mt. Fitz Roy, and Cerro Torre are stunning mountain massifs of the Andes ridge, which stretches along the entire American continent. In the Los Glaciares National Park lies the largest continental glacier, Hielo Patagonica. The film describes two different journeys. The first, about a week long, into and around the Paine rock group and to the Ventisquerro Grey glacier in Chile. The second to the Argentine area of Cerro Torre and Monte Fitz Roy. It also maps the complicated access routes to both national parks through Punta Arenas - the city guarding the Magellan Strait, Puerta Natales, as well as Argentine El Calafate and El Chalten. Southern Patagonia is becoming a new challenge and a land of open possibilities for trekking and technical mountaineering.
