Fjordy - CD

Jazz Intersection, as the event captured on the album Fjordy by the quartet of Jaroslav Šindler could be called. Four personalities came together here, each with their own colorful musical career: guitarist Jaroslav Šindler has accompanied Czech jazz wizard Jiří Stivín for over three decades, played in the band Veleband, and accompanied singer Irena Budweiserová; saxophonist Jan Štolba played jazz above the Arctic Circle and in the antipodes, folk with Oldřich Janota, and rock with Vlastimil Třešňák; Vít Švec was a member of the National Theatre orchestra and took his jazz trio all the way to distant Japan; and Jan Linhart's drums can be heard in a few Prague big bands or in the films Želary and Swingtime. The quartet debuted in 2020 with a concert as part of the subscription series of the Prague Spring, successfully survived the COVID breaks, and offers exclusively its own repertoire and plenty of jazz improvisation on its first album Fjordy, with a stylistic range from swing-bop to Latin and jazz ballads to slightly experimental dodecaphonic crab funk or thirteen-bar twelve.
