Jiří Slíva, a Czech artist and poet, primarily focuses on drawn humor, lithography, and book illustration. In the 1960s, he played drums in the Plzeň beat group The Spiders and from 1971 to 1972 in the trio of Petr Skoumal at the Prague Činoherní klub. In the first half of the 1970s, he performed his songs and absurd poems at concerts of singer-songwriters from the Šafrán association, later as a guest of the duo Burian & Dědeček. With the song Matiné, he even won an award in one edition of the 'Šafrán' competition O ptáka Noha. Since 1979, he has made a living as a drawer, illustrator, and graphic designer, while pursuing music more as an amateur, for example, as a member of Grafičanka, a musical association of Czech graphic artists. After nearly forty years, Jiří Slíva recorded his old repertoire on the album Kup si bicí! and supplemented it with several new songs. The music production was handled by Marek Doubrava, and in the studio of Ondřej Ježek, leading jazz musicians gathered for the recording, such as pianist Karel Růžička and guitarist Adam Tvrdý, as well as Miroslav Kořínek from Studio Ypsilon, the female part of the Doubravánek ensemble, and many others. Jiří Slíva's songs cannot be neatly categorized into any stylistic box, and their most accurate genre designation is blues & dada & jazz & rock'n'roll.
