Anne Beddingfeld, a young and intelligent woman with a sense of adventure, finds herself in a difficult situation after the sudden death of her father and contemplates what to do with her life. Soon it becomes clear that the unfortunate event is likely connected to the discovery of a strangled woman at the home of Member of Parliament Sir Eustace Pedler. Anne decides to get to the bottom of the matter, and clues and chance lead her to a ship sailing to South Africa... The Man in the Brown Suit (1924) is the first novel by Agatha Christie translated into Czech (1927). The author humorously combines the style of romantic reading with a spy-crime storyline. Alongside the main heroine, the emancipated and fearless girl Anne, we are introduced for the first time to the character of Colonel Race, whom Agatha Christie later included in her other novels. The story is rich with romantic backdrops, suspense (until the last moment, the reader suspects several characters), diverse plot twists, and, last but not least, ubiquitous humor.
