James McGregor (Charlie Sheen) is a successful detective, but he has a number of problems in his personal life. He often tries to forget his failed marriage over a glass of Scotch. Even as the author of a bestseller on the psychology of murderers, he doesn't enjoy much peace. Especially when a psychopath decides to put his theories to the test in practice. One evening, McGregor receives a death notice for an unknown woman, and the next day she is found dead in his garden. He is, of course, the prime suspect, yet he embarks on an investigation because the murderer has already delivered another death notice as a harbinger of a new victim of his rampage.
