Dramatized reading from a novel inspired by a court case about a money-hungry railway clerk and a marriage-minded maid. Josef Maršík is a railway clerk, has a wife and children, and mainly a grumpy father-in-law who is primarily concerned with money, and thus would like to get rid of his daughter's family to rent their apartment better and at a higher price. However, to secure his family and build his dream house with a terrace and balcony, Maršík needs much more money! That’s when he makes his first bad decision: he places a personal ad. After all, there are single women with money... An aging single woman, Alžběta Válová, a maid whose former mistress bequeathed her—can you believe it?—seventeen thousand! Maršík cannot resist this, and step by step, he approaches an inevitable tragedy.
