Beschreibung

The "Detective Horror" The story of the criminal councilor can be seen as an allegory about the difficulties of adolescence and the desire to break free from parental influence, but it is also a chilling and thrilling search for the true origin of the crime. On a metaphorical level, it reflects on the causes of guilt and the consequences of punishment. A radio recording from 2013 directed by Markéta Jahodová describes: The prose writer Ladislav Fuks was born on September 24, 1923, in Prague. His strict father worked as a police officer. It was likely from the depths of his own experience that Fuks drew inspiration for his novel The Story of the Criminal Councilor. From 1945 to 1949, Ladislav Fuks studied philosophy, psychology, art history, and pedagogy at Charles University in Prague. Although he later worked as a clerk and civil servant, he was a specialist at the State Heritage Administration in Prague and until 1963 at the National Gallery; he undoubtedly drew for his literary career from his knowledge of human psychology and behavior shaped by exceptional, threatening, and stressful situations. The experience of the war period was crucial, as only one of his Jewish classmates returned from the concentration camps, and Fuks himself was in forced labor on a farm in Hodonín from 1942.
