This expansion adds new civilizations, map tiles and exploration tokens, which can be shuffled together with components of the same type during setup. It includes six new civilizations: three from the Middle East and three from South America. The new map tiles also introduce several concepts: Strong Barbarians provide a Glory token and additional natural resources, but still remove 1 gold at the end of an epoch; the Defensive Base is a new map hex that provides one additional defense die and 1 victory point at the end of the game; and Celebration is a new type of exploration token from the territory expansion that provides 1 culture in exchange for 1 food. The expansion is for 2–4 players and games take 120–180 minutes. It contains 6 civilization boards, 9 map tiles, 8 exploration tokens, 4 Strong Barbarian tokens, 3 oil export tokens, 3 Great Pyramid tokens, 2 terrace farming tokens and 1 rules tile.
