The legendary U2 releases the album Songs of Experience! One of the most popular rock bands in the world, U2, releases the long-awaited fourteenth album Songs of Experience, which is a continuation of the previous record Songs of Innocence. Both titles refer to the eponymous work of the 18th-century English poet and mystic William Blake. The first released single You’re The Best Thing About Me became, after more than a decade, a song that made it into the top 20 most played songs, and even received a remix from Norwegian DJ superstar Kygo. Thematically, the album is heavily influenced by the advice of Irish poet, novelist, and professor at Dublin University Brendan Kennelly: "...write as if you were dead." The result is a collection of songs in the form of intimate letters to places and people close to Bono's heart. The subjects include family, friends, fans, and himself. The record was recorded in Dublin, New York, and Los Angeles under the supervision of producer Jacknife Lee, who has previously collaborated with R.E.M, One Direction, and Taylor Swift, as well as One Republic's singer Ryan Tedder, who is also a songwriter and producer.
