Harpsichordist Kateřina Englichová and oboist Vilém Veverka present works for oboe and harp by Maurice Ravel, Claude Debussy and Luboš Sluka. The programme includes Ravel’s Le tombeau de Couperin, Pieces en forme de Habanera and Pavane pour une infante défunte; Debussy’s Reverie, Arabesque No. 2, and Prélude and Menuet from Suite bergamasque; and Sluka’s Primavera and Gabbione per due ussignuoli. Their first duo recording reflects almost twelve years of performing together. The unusual combination of oboe and harp offers an endless range of colours, balancing fragility with assured virtuosity. Ravel’s Le tombeau de Couperin forms the central work, a musical imprint of the composer’s memories of friends lost in the First World War. Delicate pieces by Ravel and Debussy appear in carefully crafted arrangements that bring them new colours, while Primavera, composed specifically for Englichová and Veverka, receives its premiere recording.
