Synopsis
The country girl Kačenka is sent to Prague by her uncle, where she first works as a helper in a grocery store and then in a butcher shop. Her sweetheart, Vincek, follows her to the city but faces bad luck. According to a gypsy's prophecy, Kačenka meets the wealthy engineer Romanovský, who charms her. One night, thieves rob the safe in the butcher's villa, forcing Kačenka to find a new job with Dr. Koulová. Her next position is in the home of banker Tomíček, whose wife is a film star. Kačenka nearly ruins a film shoot and almost steals her lover. She rejects Vincek's marriage proposal and succumbs to Romanovský's charms. Vincek independently uncovers the gang behind the robbery, led by Romanovský. Kačenka finally realizes she was merely being used by Romanovský and sets off to find Vincek. She finds him just in time to prevent his suicide and embraces him.
