Synopsis
Petr Zelenka, the creator of the successful 1997 film "Buttoners," contributed as a screenwriter to Ondříček's "Loners" and later wrote and directed the feature film "Year of the Devil." Zelenka tells the story of Jaromír Nohavica and the band Čechomor in an unconventional way, documenting the period when Nohavica was undergoing treatment for alcohol addiction. In this film, musician Karel Plíhal appears as Nohavica's "guardian angel." The idea to make a film with J. Nohavica and Čechomor in the leading roles came to Zelenka in the summer of 2000, during a short concert tour they were on together. Zelenka's film is enriched with interviews not only with the main characters but also with other intriguing figures, including musician Jaz Coleman and Dutch documentarian Jan Holman (Jan Prent), who aims to catch Nohavica in the act of drinking again. A skilled mystifier, Zelenka includes scenes with surreal, mystical, and even supernatural undertones. Filming took place in May and June 2001 at various locations across the country, capturing both staged scenes and live performances by Nohavica and Čechomor, which are integral to the plot. "It's a film about how to elegantly exit the world. Or it could be about friendship, or how four musicians witness a miracle. It might also be about how the people you meet can change your life," said screenwriter and director Petr Zelenka about his film.
