We Will Remain Faithful / Verni zustaneme DVD
Synopsis
The famous closing words of Edvard Beneš's funeral oration for Tomáš Masaryk on September 21, 1937, became a symbol of the democratic antifascist Czechoslovak resistance and lent their name to this film. It served as a report from the exiled London-based Czechoslovak government to the public. This extensive documentary follows the arduous journey of Czechoslovak antifascists, beginning with the bitter Munich Agreement of autumn 1938 and the even sadder March 15, 1939. It details the challenging years of the "golden era" of the German blitzkrieg, during which the Wehrmacht occupied much of Europe. The film doesn't shy away from critical moments of both domestic and foreign resistance and covers significant events of WWII, including the Eastern, Western, and North African fronts. The film culminates with President Edvard Beneš's speech summarizing the activities of the London and Moscow-based foreign resistance and outlining the initial steps planned for the liberated homeland. These intentions differed greatly from what actually transpired in Czechoslovakia post-May 1945.
