Description
Warsaw Uprising / Powstanie Warszawskie DVD
Synopsis
Realising the high artistic, historical and educational value of the newsreels recorded during the Warsaw Uprising by the operators of the Home Army Information and Propaganda Bureau, the Warsaw Uprising Museum decided to blow off the dust that had accumulated on these tapes over 70 years. The filmmakers began by improving the quality of the footage: they gave it colour, cleaned up the blemishes created by the extremely difficult recording conditions, and finally soundtracked it.
The result was a picture that eschewed the division into traditional film genres. This was seen as an asset and it was acknowledged that 'Warsaw Uprising' would be the world's first non-fiction war drama.
"I try to do my job well in film and I can judge the work of the people who make the films. I think that here this work has been done very well." - Allan Starski, Polish film and theatre production designer, Academy Award winner.
"I'm an old hand, hardly anything moves me in cinema and it's difficult to manipulate my emotions. Sometimes I even suspect myself of cynicism. And yet this time I gave in. After leaving the cinema, I locked myself in the car, turned the music on full blast and cried loudly." - Tomasz Raczek, film critic.
