Synopsis
The Czech film directed by Svatopluk Innemann is based on the detective novel by Emil Vachek, Muž a stín (1932). The authors adapted a real-life case - the murder of a wealthy usurer that once captivated public interest. In the film, detective Klubíčko investigates the murder, being the only one who doesn't believe that the victim's husband, privateer Zachar, could be the murderer. Discrepancies in the testimonies gradually lead him to the real culprit. It's only with the help of a crime reconstruction that he manages to convict him. Jindřich Plachta shines in the story of the search for the perpetrator of a brutal murder. The actor, known for dozens of comedic roles, masterfully portrays the first Czech film detective, Klubíčko. He became one of his most iconic characters. Murder on Ostrovní Street is the first film created in the AB studios at Barrandov.
