Synopsis
A loose adaptation of the novel by Jarmila Glazarová, directed by Jiří Weiss, "The Wolf Trap" captures the unequal marriage of two fundamentally different people: an older, emotionally empty woman and her younger husband, a lover of nature, art, and beauty. Their lives are disrupted by the arrival of a young foster daughter, Jana, who becomes deeply attached to her stepfather, and he, too, develops feelings for her that go beyond paternal affection. Despite their mutual feelings, they are unable to overcome the oppressive curse of their small-town house. The film features captivating performances by Jana Brejchová, Jiřina Šejbalová, and Miroslav Doležal and won the FIPRESCI Prize at the 1958 Venice Film Festival.
