Synopsis
Seventeen-year-old Božka lives with her father Martin in a small hotel in the Ore Mountains. They host drillers conducting geological surveys for tin in the surrounding areas. Božka admires the driver Gába, a young man who spends his free time pursuing romantic affairs, mostly with married women, and who looks down on the naive girl with disdain. However, Božka's deep and sincere affection eventually catches Gába's attention. Despite this, the emotionally hardened young man and the girl experiencing her first love struggle to connect easily. This lyrical film about a young girl's first romantic infatuation is the middle part of a loose trilogy created by Karel Kachyňa in collaboration with screenwriter Jan Procházka, which also includes the films Trápení (1961) and Vysoká zeď (1964). The director cast then-DAMU student Eva Šolcová in the lead role, with other roles given to lesser-known actors from regional theaters.
