Synopsis
One of Hrabal's best characters, the eccentric paper packer Hanťa, has undergone a long development along with his author. Director Věra Caïsová chose Hanťa (played by Philippe Noiret) for her film, depicting him as a loving admirer of life. In the gentle dimness of his pressroom, Hanťa weaves alcohol-fueled thoughts and quietly creates his artistic masterpieces—bales of shredded paper that juxtapose rare books with bloodstained papers from slaughterhouses.
