Prague Cans / Vejska
Synopsis
Petr Kocourek (Tomáš Vorel Jr.) applies to the graphics department at UMPRUM, a highly selective art school. Having been rejected once before, he faces the uncompromising professor Slanina (Jakub Kohák). Petr falls head over heels for the beautiful Julie (Eva Josefíková), who is also applying. Meanwhile, Michal Kolman (Jiří Mádl) is studying at the University of Economics but is more interested in his female classmates and fast cars than in lectures and seminars. He cheats, bribes, or relies on his influential father (Jan Kraus) to pass his exams. Petr's mother (Zuzana Bydžovská) has long abandoned the hope that her son would pursue a conventional career, while Mrs. Kolmanová (Ivana Chýlková) continuously pampers and supports her son. The two boys share a passion for illegal graffiti, experiencing wild adventures on the rooftops, stations, and underpasses of Prague. During one night chase, Petr is caught... The film features music and rap by DJ Mike Trafik and Vladimir 518, minimalistic acting, dynamic camerawork, and mysterious night scenes, giving Prague an authentic feel.

It is in these wanderings that Anyna makes the acquaintance of locally born-and-bred forest ranger and hunter, Ludva. Meanwhile her parents are persecuted by local authorities, with her mother being taken into custody for her popular magic mushroom seance. As their financial situation becomes increasingly dire, a solution emerges following an unexpected life change.

Catch the Billionaire / Ulovit miliardare
Synopsis
Everyone wants to catch a billionaire. Police officers, journalists, politicians, artists, and people from religious circles all have their eyes on successful entrepreneur Patrik Grossmann, who becomes the target of a fabricated news report. The atmosphere grows so tense that attacking him becomes a way for others to showcase their morality. Even his girlfriend, a TV weather presenter, feels her career might be at risk. It seems like an unstoppable downfall is imminent until a marijuana-induced idea brings hope. More significant than the story itself is the exploration of the relationships and mechanisms driving the information society. Dictatorships used propaganda, which everyone knew about but no one believed. Public Relations, on the other hand, is unknown to many but believed by all. In short, being a billionaire today is nothing to envy.

Z mesta cesta
Synopsis
Director Tomáš Vorel retraces the personal escapes of the main characters from the film "Out of the City." This documentary by Tomáš Vorel follows five protagonists in separate chapters, all united by their love for nature. In the first chapter, we meet tramp Kim, who sleeps in the forests and roams the Czech countryside. The second chapter features actor Petr Čtvrtníček and his passion for boats, steamships, and houseboats. In the third chapter, actress Eva Holubová reflects on life in the village, where she feels most at home at her cottage. The most notable fourth chapter chronicles the life of coachman Hruška, who abandoned a promising church career due to his drunken and immoral escapades. Although he is beloved by the villagers, he remains an unreliable alcoholic to his employers. The film concludes with the fifth chapter, where Bolek Polívka enjoys life on his farm. All these episodic stories are interconnected by tramp Kim, who appears throughout as an eternal wanderer and lover of a nomadic life. The film raises questions about the essence of being, nature, and personal freedom through the lives of those who left urban life for the countryside, though some not entirely. Tomáš Vorel authentically captures the rural environment, which is very close to him and serves as his main source of inspiration. The documentary was created shortly after the feature film "Out of the City," to which it directly refers. The main protagonists are friends and long-term collaborators of the director, who also starred in the aforementioned feature. This is also Tomáš Vorel's first feature film where he took on the role of both director and cameraman, a role he has continued in subsequent projects.

The Stone Bridge / Kamenny most
Synopsis
A bitter comedy and the third feature film by director Tomáš Vorel, set in the heart of Prague on the iconic Charles Bridge, as it is today. The story follows Tomáš, a FAMU graduate and once-promising young director, who is dealing with a mid-thirties crisis. He aimlessly wanders through Malá Strana, sinking deeper into despair amidst the prevailing spirit of commerce he refuses to join. His creative emptiness strains his personal relationships, making his lifestyle unbearable for his wife Martina and their son Péťa. They find hope in the wealthy producer Robert, leading to a marital triangle. Robert pushes Tomáš to write a film script, promising to finance it while expecting Tomáš to stay out of his relationship with Martina. Unexpectedly, the story reaches a surprising resolution. The film, reflecting Vorel's views on contemporary Czech society and his recurring themes, offers an exploration of life's and creativity's authenticity, despite criticisms of stylistic inconsistency and excessive ornamentation.

The Smoke / Kour
Synopsis
A peculiar musical about peculiar times... This cult film, subtitled "A Rhythmical of the Totalitarian Age," tells the story of a young engineer named Mirek, who arrives at his new workplace with an utterly bizarre and incomprehensible idea—that he wants to work diligently and honestly, causing quite a stir. His innocent approach inadvertently sets local events in motion, leading him into the midst of an open rebellion. After his feature debut "Pražská pětka" in 1988, director Tomáš Vorel again chose a satirical theme, creating this now-cult film based on his 1985 student short "ING." With Lumír Tuček, co-writer and lyricist from the Recitation Group Vpřed, they crafted a film with the distinct poetics of the Sklep Theatre, blending seriousness with humor, irony with admiration, reality with absurdity. Production began at the end of the communist regime in 1988, and filming started in January 1990. The film premiered in February 1991 but initially failed to attract significant audiences. However, as "Smoke" was rediscovered, it gradually became a timeless fan phenomenon, noted for its unique humor, unconventional musical approach, and skeptical view of the revolution, whose outcomes ultimately resemble the old order.
