Tobruk DVD
Synopsis
A tale of human survival and the fates of the soldiers of the 11th Czechoslovak Infantry Battalion in North Africa in the autumn of 1941. This film adaptation tells the story of the Czechoslovak 11th Infantry Battalion – East, led by Lt. Col. Karel Klapálek, who successfully defended their positions near the port city of Tobruk in the autumn of 1941. It pays tribute to all World War II veterans. Through the experiences of two newcomers, assigned to the Czechoslovak unit just before the Battle of Tobruk, the film explores themes of confidence, rebellion, heroism, and the innate human desire to survive. The main protagonists, Pospíchal (J. Meduna) and Lieberman (P. Vaněk), join the unit shortly before being deployed into battle. In the struggle for mere survival, their ideals are confronted with the harsh realities of desert warfare, as well as various attitudes and characters shaped by the terror of man-to-man combat.
