Through the Eyes of the Photographer / Ocima fotografky DVD
Synopsis
Director Matej Mináč is renowned for his films about Sir Nicholas Winton, who saved hundreds of Jewish children during World War II. In this documentary, Mináč chronicles the fate of one who wasn’t fortunate enough to board Winton’s train to safety: his own mother, the spirited 84-year-old Zuzana Mináčová. A prominent figure in Slovak and Czech photography, Zuzana exhibited her work in 30 countries and became legendary for her portraits of international film stars at festivals. Despite her success and optimism, she is haunted by a traumatic childhood secret. The only way to reconcile with her past is to speak about her childhood love story. Zuzana embarks on a journey to the place where, at age 13, she faced the most horrifying moments of her life. Will she find peace there? With her characteristic humor, Zuzana guides us through the pivotal changes of the 20th century—fascism, communism, and capitalism—while revealing the principles of her artistic work, the behind-the-scenes of photographing celebrities, and her dramatic personal life.
