Description
Three Daughters / Tri dcery DVD
Synopsis
The film concludes Uher's symbolic trilogy reflecting on World War II (Organ), its aftermath (The Miraculous Virgin), and the post-war period. This folk ballad, set during the collectivization of the 1950s, tells the story of Majda, who wishes to leave his estate to his son, sending his three daughters to a convent. However, when he loses everything during collectivization, his only refuge is with them. In the tradition of folk ballads, it is the youngest daughter who offers him help. Uher and Bednár craft a drama about fanaticism, building from ironic depictions of encounters between the convent group and state farm officials to the dramatic clash of two irreconcilable ideologies.
