The White Lady / Bila pani Remastered DVD
Synopsis
Beautiful ghosts in the form of various Perchtas and White Ladies have a long tradition in our folklore. The kind White Lady could feed the poor and punish arrogant lords or overseers. In the mid-1960s, writer Karel Michal revisited these legends in his collection "Ghosts for Everyday." In his portrayal, the White Lady – Perchta of Borštejn – continued her benevolent mission even during the socialist era. Perchta had to compensate for the arrogant indifference of those who were supposed to care for the people's welfare but instead cared only for their own comforts. Her punishable activity drew the attention of authorities at all levels and was very, very undesirable. The film adaptation of this story, directed by Zdeněk Podskalský in 1965, also became undesirable and was stored away for over twenty years to avoid provoking uncomfortable questions. In this satirical – somewhat ghostly – comedy, you will encounter Jiřina Bohdalová, Miloš Kopecký, Vlastimil Brodský, Irena Kačírková, and Rudolf Hrušínský.
