Synopsis
The peaceful mountain village is disrupted on Christmas Eve by the return of Karel, a young man who has found success abroad. Instantly, Karel becomes a desirable match for all the marriageable girls in the village, so much so that they besiege his home. However, Karel wants to avoid marriage, sell the farm, take his younger brother, and move away permanently. To deter the girls, he devises impossible tasks with clear conditions. All the girls are eliminated by the first task, except for Maruška's stepsister Květa. Maruška, initially indifferent to Karel and finding him arrogant, is forced by her Stepmother to help Květa with the tasks. Neither Maruška nor Květa knows about the magical Moons and their powers. Maruška, with the help of the Moons, catches Karel's eye despite her Stepmother and Květa's manipulations. Complicating matters is Karel's brother Nosek, who, under the influence of a magical spell cast by the Moon April, falls hopelessly in love with Květa. The Moons' attempts to correct this with another spell involving enchanted strawberries only lead to further unexpected twists, revealing Květa's true nature. Can Maruška fulfill the final task for Květa and make the old withered apple tree bloom? And what will Karel do when he is faced with marrying a girl he does not love?
