Synopsis
In the spa town of Džbery, the summer holidays bring back regular guests, such as Councilor Dyndera with his energetic wife and their two attractive daughters, Alena and Věra, who always stay at the renowned inn "U kamenného stolu." This year, young engineers Tomáš and Spytihněv also arrive, nephews of the flirtatious innkeeper Božena Tatrmužová, who ran away from her husband with the worldly traveling actor Ben Mertens. The devastated Šimon Tatrmuž locks himself in a room and refuses to come out. It seems this season will be unsuccessful, and the dissatisfied guests might leave. Tomáš and Spytihněv take over managing the inn to win the attention of the councilor's daughters, but their efforts are futile. Initially, they argue over who will be in charge, but they agree to alternate weekly as the boss and head waiter. The bigger issue is that they haven't spoken for years due to a childhood argument over a glass marble. They engage in a constant silent battle, only pausing when competing for the girls' favor against other suitors. It's no surprise that the inn struggles. When things can't seem to get any worse, the Dynderas decide to intervene. While Councilor Dyndera tries to lift Šimon's spirits, Mrs. Dyndera goes to persuade the innkeeper to return.
