Synopsis
The family of the bogeyman Hugo peacefully inhabits an old villa on the edge of town. Their sweet, spooky life, where Hugo enjoys howling, his wife Patricia and her mother Sophie cast spells, the water sprite Bubla tends to souls, and the fairy Jitřenka dances lightly, is disrupted by the arrival of the official Patočka, who manages the records of buildings at the municipal office. He discovers that no one has paid rent for the house for many years and no one officially wants to live there, primarily because it's haunted. Yet, a peculiar family does live there. The verdict is merciless: pay up or move out! But how can they pay when Hugo earns nothing from his howling and Patricia only mixes potions that can transform people into animals or film divas but can't conjure money? There's no other choice; the ghosts will have to find jobs, and their children, Ester and Eleonor, will have to go to school. It seems simple, but the life of ordinary mortals will be more complicated for the spooky family than it first appears. How will the water sprite fare in a laundry, the fairy as a prima ballerina in a dance ensemble, and the bogeyman as a star of the local theater? Will Patricia resist the charms of her first love, the vampire Ignác from Temešvár? And what about Patočka? Encountering the human world, where different rules apply than in the magical one, brings many comedic and suspenseful situations. Our heroes must use not only their magic but also family unity, love, and courage to outsmart the bureaucrat and overcome the challenges posed by "ordinary" people.
