Description
The Snowdrop Festival / Slavnosti snezenek DVD
Synopsis
An unforgettable dispute between two hunting associations over a shot wild boar... The film adaptation of Bohumil Hrabal's short story collection "The Snowdrop Festival" was made in 1983. The individual stories are portrait miniatures of neighbors with whom Hrabal lived in a unique cottage area in Kersko, near Prague. Most of these literary characters have real-life counterparts. With Hrabal's inimitable storytelling style and the excellent professional technique of the director, a nostalgic yet deeply human fresco of genre stories unfolds before the viewers, depicting the lives of people in Polabí. The film beautifully blends poetry with realistic descriptions, stylized exaggeration with humorous detail, and joyous events with sad ones. Notably, besides well-known actors like Rudolf Hrušínský, Jaromír Hanzlík, Josef Somr, Petr Čepek, and Jiří Schmitzer, the film features cameo appearances by Hrabal himself and two significant Czech directors: Jiří Krejčík as the perpetually hungry Mr. Karel and František Vláčil as the old hunter.
