The Seven Ravens / Sedmero Krkavcu DVD

I have many versions of this famous fairy tale on DVD. An older Czech one from the 1990s, a German one, an Estonian/Soviet one, the Jim Henson version and a cartoon. All of those are lovely and romantic, but this one may be the most romantic version. The nature backdrop is also very majestic and lush.
I was so used to seeing princess-like actresses playing the female lead that I my curiosity was piqued when I saw a "normal" looking woman in such a part for a change. By the film's end, she's as much a beauty to the viewer as the rest of them. So expressive and lively, and she and the kind, equally lovable prince make such a lovely, dear, romantic couple, I was rooting for them throughout. Other versions of the story tend to be more mentally stressful (as far as fairy tales can be deemed so) because of the villain constantly hounding the poor heroine. Here, the villain(s) are comical, thus taking the edge off, while still sticking beautifully to kernel of their parts in the story. The novel additions to the story, the realism in motivations woven into it, all make it stand out as a unique and worthy rendition in its own right. If you love this fairy tale, or even if you didn't before, you will want this version.
