Synopsis
Janus, the founder of Steel City (J. Vinklář), plans to attack the neighboring Fortuna to exploit its mineral wealth. When Dr. Sarrasin (M. Růžek) warns the people of Fortuna, no one believes him. Consequently, he sends his son-in-law, engineer Marcel Zodiak (J. Hanzlík), to Steel City. Marcel is supposed to meet with engineer Garmon, who works as a spy for Fortuna. Unfortunately, Garmon has been arrested, and his son Viktor (J. Potměšil) has been isolated. Marcel meets Viktor, and with his help, begins the fight to save Fortuna and its inhabitants. The writer Jules Verne vividly depicted the threat of the misuse of destructive weapons in his story. A television adaptation based loosely on his novel was created under the title The Secret of Steel City. The screenplay was written by Ondřej Vogeltanz, and directed by Ludvík Ráža in 1978.
