Description

The River / Reka DVD
Synopsis
The river seems to flow peacefully, yet it is filled with key dramatic twists that lend the film a gripping intensity, comparable to the best scripts of contemporary cinema. Fourteen-year-old Pavel, the only son of the wealthy farmer Sychra, must confront his father's fervent passion for poaching in the stunning, nearly untouched natural environment. The conflict escalates when poacher Zimák, filled with hatred towards his former friend Sychra, is released from prison. The film was presented at the 2nd Venice International Film Festival in 1934. The National Film Archive also holds a German-dubbed copy, which helped popularize the film in Germany.
