Synopsis
A masterly film adaptation of Eliza Orzeszkowa's novel. The main character is Justyna Orzelska, a half-orphan living with her uncle in their estate on the Niemen River. The girl does not quite find herself in the role of a salon lady, which is not well received by her nearest and dearest. One day she meets Jan Bohatyrowicz, a representative of the poor working gentry. Thanks to him, the girl discovers a world completely different from the one she has lived in so far. Soon, against all odds, Jan and Justyna fall in love, but will these people, who come from different worlds, find enough strength to defend their love?
