Synopsis
The latest film by Wojtek Smarzowski, director of 'Drogówka', 'Róża' and 'Wesele', is a shocking tale of addiction and attempts to get out of it - and of love that saves everything. The script is based on Jerzy Pilch's excellent novel 'Pod Mocnym Aniołem' (NIKE Literary Award 2001).
Jerzy (Robert Więckiewicz) is a writer and an alcoholic. We meet him at the moment when he believes he can win over his addiction. He falls in love with a young girl (Julia Kijowska) and finally feels he has something to live for and someone to live for. However, he doesn't last long. One day he goes straight to the bar Pod Mocnym Aniołem, where he starts drinking.... He soon finds himself in rehab, where he meets Dr Granada (Andrzej Grabowski), the staff and other patients, who form an extremely colourful gallery of characters. A director, a priest, a policeman, a truck driver, a pharmacist, a worker, a hairdresser and others tell their stories, funny and sometimes shocking. They all drink, because drinking is our national sport.
