Synopsis
The story of the water sprite, also known as Baron de Caus (Karel Dobrý), weaves romance with irony as his love for the country girl Katynka (Simona Zmrzlá) fills him with unprecedented happiness and consuming passion. The baron, along with his servant (Jiří Lábus), returns from worldly travels to restore the ponds on his estate. As a modern and enlightened man, he stands out from the local life. His interest centers on the unrestrained and exceptional daughter of the bailiff (David Novotný), Katynka, who rebels against authority with her passionate worship of nature and pagan rituals. The intelligent and beautiful girl charms everyone, including the teacher Voves (Jiří Maryško) and the priest Fidelius (Jan Kolařík). As Katynka draws closer to the water sprite, he increasingly doubts whether he can maintain his dual nature as both man and beast this time around.
