Description

The Great Adventure / Velke dobrodruzstvi DVD
Synopsis
During the tense Stalinist period of the late 1940s and early 1950s in Czechoslovakia, several biographical films were produced that depicted their protagonists as class-conscious artists, scientists, and so forth, in line with the prevailing propaganda. This was also the case with the traveler Emil Holub. Screenwriter Jiří Brdečka crafted a very illustrative, stage-like story of an extraordinary man who, however, encounters disinterest and rejection from the domestic Czech bourgeoisie. Additionally, there is an international dimension—Holub encounters British expansionism in Africa and vehemently rejects the colonial methods, striving to help the Africans.
