Synopsis
A saga capturing the atmosphere of the First Republic from 1918 to 1945, the story revolves around the diverse fates of the sprawling Valent family. They became wealthy through wartime contracts and moved from the countryside to Podolí, a district in Prague that, at the time, was just meadows, a few old factory chimneys, and post-war poverty. The enterprising Valent family would change this landscape, though not without challenges and not alone. Within the family, there's rivalry between brothers and a mystery involving an old pre-war murder. They also experience their fateful loves. The series tells the story of the First (and Second) Republics through the eyes of an upper-class family that shaped the nation's political and social standards. However, the main and secondary characters represent a broad spectrum, covering different layers of society, from elites to the working and peasant classes. The heroes' fates intertwine with the events of the time, reminding viewers of significant moments in our history.
