Synopsis
This 1970 film by Jan Procházka and Karel Kachyňa was one of the most forbidden works of its time — locked deep in the communist-era vaults for nearly two decades. Banned because of its author’s name and its growing relevance, it premiered only after 1989. A tense psychological drama blending satire, grotesque, and crime elements, the film portrays a deputy minister (Radoslav Brzobohatý) and his wife (Jiřina Bohdalová) trapped in a world of paranoia and surveillance. Under constant listening devices installed by State Security, their home becomes a cage of fear, suspicion, and emotional collapse.
