The Ear / Ucho Remastered DVD
Synopsis
The Ear, a masterful psychological drama, confronts the audience with a stark portrayal of totalitarian regime practices. Filmed amidst a slightly freer atmosphere in the late sixties, its release to audiences only occurred after 1990. Set against a backdrop of constant surveillance and wiretapping by state security, the deputy minister and his wife, portrayed by Radoslav Brzobohatý and Jiřina Bohdalová, live under the shadow of intrusive monitoring devices, including a listening "ear" in their own home. When they return home one night from a government reception, panic grips them as they realize Ludvík, implicated in a critical report, faces imminent arrest. Through a night fraught with anxiety and insomnia, the couple confronts their relationship, marked by compromises, deception, and a lack of love. With the dawn, they face a chilling reality: nothing ends, but rather, it continues unabated.
