Synopsis
Factory owner Dvorský experiences life's troubles firsthand when the kaolin supply for his factory dangerously diminishes. The wife of Mayor Pivoňka is willing to sell kaolin fields under the condition that he marries her daughter Táňa. However, Táňa, a widow with a four-year-old son, refuses the proposal. Mrs. Lexová also owns kaolin fields. Dvorský organizes a puppet show in his villa for the sickly son of the mayor. Little Mirek wakes up at night and goes to the theater to find the puppet of a princess. Unfortunately, he accidentally sets the curtain on fire with a candle, and the theater burns down. The daughter of the theater owner, Eva, saves the child. Dvorský provides funds for a new theater, and Eva is accommodated in his house. They develop feelings for each other, but their love is opposed by Mrs. Lexová. While Dvorský obtains the kaolin fields, actress Eva must leave the house immediately... The film features original puppets by the famous Matěj Kopecký.
