Synopsis
In a private girls’ school in New England, best friends Karen Wright and Martha Dobie face a scandal after a spiteful student accuses them of having a lesbian relationship. The rumour spreads through the town, emptying their classrooms and damaging their lives. With Karen’s relationship with Dr Joe Cardin also affected, the two women bring a libel case that attracts national newspaper attention.
